Weak, warm or noisy air conditioning is usually a leak, not an empty system. Topping it up without finding the leak just buys you a few weeks. We locate the leak first, then evacuate, repair and recharge to spec.

What Happens In The Bay
- 01We start with a performance test: vent temperature and system pressures on both sides, which separates a low charge from a mechanical or airflow fault.
- 02If the charge is low, we find the leak rather than just refilling it — UV dye and a proper inspection of the condenser, hoses, fittings and compressor shaft seal.
- 03We check the cabin air filter and the condenser fins early, because restricted airflow is very often mistaken for weak cooling and costs nothing to rule out.
- 04Repairs are made, then the system is evacuated to remove moisture and recharged to the manufacturer's exact specification by weight.
- 05A final performance test confirms the vent temperature before the car goes back to you.
What Waiting Costs
Refrigerant carries the oil that lubricates the compressor. Running a system that is low on charge runs the compressor short of oil, which turns an inexpensive leak repair into a compressor replacement — and a failed compressor can send metal debris through the whole system.

Common Questions
- Can't I just use one of the recharge cans from the auto parts store?
- You can, and it will usually work for a few weeks. A sealed system does not consume refrigerant, so if it is low it is leaking — the can does not fix that, and the sealant in some of them can contaminate the system and the shop equipment used to service it later.
- Why is my A/C cold on the highway but warm in traffic?
- That pattern usually points at airflow across the condenser rather than the refrigerant charge — most often a cooling fan not running as it should, or a condenser packed with debris.
- Why does my air conditioning smell musty?
- The evaporator is cold and wet by design, which makes it a reasonable place for mould to grow, and a saturated cabin air filter holds moisture against it. A fresh filter fixes many cases; the rest need the evaporator treated properly.
- My air is cold but there is barely any of it. Is that the A/C?
- Often not. A blocked cabin air filter restricts airflow while the air itself is properly cold, and it gets misdiagnosed as an A/C fault regularly. It is the cheapest thing to check and we check it first.
